Jeunesse Kids™ Brings Hope to Irkaat, Kenya

Aug 16, 2016

Memorable Trip Changes Lives for Villagers and Attendees
Jeunesse founders, executives and top Distributors made an unforgettable trek to Irkaat, Kenya to visit the village Jeunesse has adopted through the We Charity (formerly known as Free The Children) We Village program.

Approximately 100 people took part in the Bringing Hope 2016 cultural immersion and service trip July 20–27, including We Charity Co-founder, Craig Kielburger; Jeunesse Founders Randy Ray (CEO) and Wendy Lewis (COO); Chief Visionary Officer, Scott Lewis and his wife, Isabel Lewis, along with corporate employees, Jeunesse Distributors and family members.

The trip provided an opportunity for participants to witness firsthand the life-changing impact our contributions are having on the village and its people, and to lend a hand through service projects in Irkaat and surrounding villages in the Maasai Mara of Kenya.

Everyone was moved by the warm welcome they received in Irkaat, where the entire village showed up to greet them, each wearing their very best clothing as a sign of the deep respect and gratitude they feel for the Jeunesse family.

In Irkaat participants were able to cut the ribbon on a new schoolroom building and the village’s only clean water source well. Completion of both of these projects has been made possible by your donations to Jeunesse Kids and will have lifelong positive effects, including preventing hundreds of children from contracting debilitating illnesses. These projects are part of the comprehensive five-year sustainability plan we have helped implement that includes education, clean water, health, food security and livelihood — providing the people of Irkaat with the education, skills and opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty.

Many memorable moments were had with the children of the different villages — breaking ground on a new boarding school, planting trees, sitting side-by-side beading bracelets with the mamas and being trained by true Maasai warriors in their deep-rooted traditions. Randy and Wendy even had the unique opportunity to lead a class on entrepreneurship at Kisaruni Boarding School for Girls.

“Through these experiences we have developed a lasting emotional connection with the people of Kenya, and it was certainly bittersweet to leave behind the children, families and friends whose bond will forever be deep in our hearts. I wish every Jeunesse Distributor around the world could have been there to take in the love and gratitude that poured out from the hearts of the people of Irkaat. We can’t wait to go back and see them again!”
- Scott Lewis, Chief Visionary Officer

Bringing Hope 2016 is proof positive of the impact we are making empowering communities to give children a brighter future. We are so grateful to our Jeunesse family for making a difference in the lives of these beautiful children. What we are collectively creating is a sustainable legacy that is changing the lives of those we are helping as well as the lives of those who are stepping up to make this mission a reality.
